The Firm

The Law Firm of Christine Rister is a woman and veteran owned law firm that has been certified as a Serviced-Connected Disabled-Veteran Small Business.  Christine is licensed  and practices in both California and Texas.

The Law Firm provides prompt, reliable and efficient legal services by embracing technology.   Unlike the traditional brick and mortar law firm burdened by substantial overhead and buried under mountains of paper, the Law Firm of Christine Rister uses cloud-based technology to work anywhere at anytime in a more cost efficient and environmentally friendly manner.

The Law Firm has embraced the change from a traditional brick and mortar law firm by incorporating the legal management software Practice Panther and Box document sharing/storage, which allows the firm to manage case files, communicate with clients, coordinate billing and receive payments paper free. Depending on client preference, communication with clients takes place via phone, teleconference or email.   And, if an in-person meeting is required, we come to you. The firm also embraces the technology already in use by state and federal courts to promptly file and serve all case related matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of law do you practice?

Where do you practice?

How does technology help me?

I  advise companies of all sizes in general business litigation matters including, but not limited to, complex business disputes, in the areas of contract, partnership, employment, real property, and consumer claims. I also provide general business representation to companies, including but not limited to, drafting and revieiwing formation, contracts and general business practices and providing employment advice.  See Services page for more details
I practice in state and federal courts in both Texas and California.
Law practice management software makes my practice more efficient and keeps down overhead costs.  I can easily manage all client- related information (i.e. deadlines, client documents, invoices, and billing) with one program.  Clients are able to share documents, access upcoming dates, and manage payment of invoices all through a secured client portal.

Do you handle litigation?

Why no brick and Mortar office?

Do you bill for Travel?

Yes!  I handled litigation remotely even before opening my own firm. The vast majority of state and federal courts have implemented electronic filings and service technology, which eliminates the need to go to the local courthouse.   Similarly, most state and federal courts have implemented telephonic conferencing so attending ordinary scheduling hearings and status conferences can be done (and in some instances must be done) by telephonic appearance.
In person meetings between clients and their attorneys are rare these days which negates the need for an actual office.  By eliminating an office, I eliminate overhead, which in traditional firms is passed on to clients through higher billing rates. I can keep my rates lower and still provide excellent legal representation.  And, if an in person meeting is needed, I can either come to you or I have access to meeting space.
Because I reside in Texas, if a matter is in California, I do not bill clients for my travel to and from California.   I do bill for travel related to the matter, the details of which will be discussed prior to engagement and set forth in a formal engagement agreement.
